Adopt-a-Park service project

The second and last Adopt-a-Park service project of the year is this Saturday September 21st, meeting at 10am in-front of the main building at Utah Lake State Park and will be picking up trash for no more than one hour. It is required that all club members attend one of the two Adopt-a-Park service projects every year. Only 18 of the 61 club members came out to the spring Adopt-a-Park service project so we are expecting 43 members to turn out this Saturday. The board does realize that there are circumstances when a few members will not be able to make one of the two Adopt-a-Park service projects, in those cases the board asks that you go down to Utah Lake State Park on your own and ask what you can do to help out. If you do go down on your own make sure you talk to someone at the State Park and fill out a "Volunteer Agreement and Time Record" then notify the board. The Adopt-a-Park service projects are a great way for the club to give back to Utah Lake State Park and is also a great way for members to get to know each other better.

We are now skiing course #4 in the main entrance into Provo Bay and will be there for the rest of this year. Course #4 is plenty deep in the course but on the west end it gets shallow fast where you would normally drop so on the west end veer to the north and drop in-line with the north turn buoys and you will be in much deeper water.

August News

- Course #3 is too shallow to ski and we will be skiing course #4 in the main entrance to Provo Bay the rest of the year, course #4 has not been used since 2004. A few members have spent several days moving the dock, finding course #4, and have started to set up course #4 but it is still not up since it is missing a few anchors. Anyone that has time to help set a few anchors on Thursday or Friday please e-mail scotchipman@gmail.com.

- A reminder that course maintenance is the responsibility of all members, the clubs VP of maintenance (Tim) is only responsible with supplying the dock box with buoys! With the new course location we will have more public use in the course and it will likely need more upkeep. If you have any questions on how to set up buoys e-mail timwaterskinude@yahoo.com  When you show up at the course make sure it is properly set and lowered up BEFORE you ski which requires you to carry your key with you. If you need a key e-mail Garn garnski@yahoo.com for a replacement. Buoys are in the lock box and a picture of what buoys go where including where the magnets go can be found at http://utahwaterski.blogspot.com/p/club-rules-course-maintenance.html and in one of the white binders in the dock box.

- If you show up at the club dock and notice anyone camping kindly tell them that the State Park does not allow overnight camping on private docks. The public can use the docks during the day when members are not utilizing them but don't encourage it.

- Remember to be courteous to non members and wait list members and encourage them to join the wait list. The current wait list has 56 people on it but with people dropping out and many people near the top not joining it is really only about a 8 year wait and there are opportunities to trade up and get in much sooner. Wait list members get the same discounts as members so they can easily pay for their $20 wait list fee is discounts. When possible let non-members and wait list members use the course if it does not interfere with your normal skiing, if it will interfere tell them they can ski when you are done. If you do let them ski between your rotations go with them in their boat if possible to show them how to properly drive in and around the course area.
Happy Skiing!

July News - No Camping/Utah State Championships

The club has a ongoing problem with people camping overnight on the club docks at course #3. In the past they have caused damage to the navigation lights, ski racks, dock box, sunshade, and even burnt the docks with stoves/fires. The club is fine with the public hanging out on the docks during the day as long as there is room for members but the State Park does not want them camping overnight. If you show up at the course and there are campers please kindly inform them that they are welcome to use the docks during the day if there is room but the State Park does not want them camping overnight. If possible write down their bow numbers and e-mail them to scotchipman at gmail.com so he can send them to Jason who has requested them, Jason is the new manager at Utah Lake State Park.

If you want to ski for free in the Utah State Championships Saturday August 3th at Sunten send a e-mail to utahwaterskiclub at gmail.com with and the club will send you instructions on how to enter on-line, the deadline is July 26th if you want the club to pay for your entry. You can still enter the tournament after the 26th but you will have to pay for it on your own.

This tournament is open to everyone even if you have never skied in a tournament before. If you can run long line or shorter and 15.5 mph or faster then you can enter the sanctioned division and get points towards a national ranking. Awards will be given out to first, second, and third place in all sanctioned divisions listed below so many people will get medals since only a few divisions have more than three people in them.

June News - New driving directions to course #3

- Course #1 is too shallow to ski, everything has been moved to course #3. Click here for course #3 location and new driving directions in and out of the course. Please enter/exit course #3 from the new west end as indicated on the map which saves time and eliminates rollers. If you do choose to go in and out of course #3 through the main entrance into Provo Bay PLEASE go wakeless in the yellow area if anyone is skiing course #3, coming into the course you will have to go wakeless since you can't tell if anyone is skiing until it is too late. The yellow area is approximately 3,000' long and will take some time so please use the west entrance when possible.

- Go to http://utahwaterski.blogspot.com/p/linksweather.html and you will see the below information listed under Weather Forecast Links. This is the best place to get a wind forecast from but like any forecast it is not perfect. Farther down the page you will see similar links for other ski lakes/clubs in Utah.
*Course #1 hour-by-hour forecast, updates every day by 6am
*Course #1 hour-by-hour forecast, updates every day by 6pm
*Course #3 hour-by-hour forecast, updates every day by 6am
*Course #3 hour-by-hour forecast, updates every day by 6pm
*Works well for wind and direction, OK for precipitation, not good for temperature.
*Add 15% to knots to convert to miles per hour so 10knots = 11.5 mph and 20knots = 23 mph.
*12Z=6am, 15Z=9am, 18Z=12pm, 21Z=3pm, 00Z=6pm, 03Z=9pm
- We continue to have problems with people camping overnight on the docks. If you show up at the docks and notice anyone camping kindly tell them that the State Park does not allow overnight camping on private docks but they are free to use them during the day when members are not utilizing them.

- Remember to be courteous to non members and wait list members and encourage them to join the wait list. The current wait list has 55 people on it but with people dropping out and many people near the top not joining it is really only about a 8 year wait and there are opportunities to trade up and get in much sooner. If you do let them ski between your rotations go with them in their boat if possible to show them how to properly drive in and around the course area.

Please reply back to the e-mail you were sent by the 5th to let the board know if you are coming or not and how many of your family so that the board can plan the proper amount of food. You can also RSVP on the club's facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/events/498298470200640

The main reason for the annual meeting is to elect a new board, the board is ALWAYS in need of new people. If you want to be on the board in 2013 e-mail scotchipman@gmail.com. The UWSC board only meets four times (sometimes only by e-mail) a year and does not pay dues.

All members are strongly encourage to pay their membership dues of $125 ($25 for emeritus members) before the annual meeting so we can give you your membership card and boat sticker which saves on mailing costs. Go to http://utahwaterski.blogspot.com/p/members.html for the details of how to renew with the NEW on-line option, you still can snail mail everything in but please do everything electronically if possible. The application and release form can fill out and sign electronically then e-mailed to garnski@yahoo.com. Membership cards are good for various discounts at local retailers, club stickers are for your boat windshield. If you still need to renew your USA Water Ski membership you can do it on-line at http://www.usawaterski.org/pages/Join.html remember to send the USA Water Ski conformation e-mail to garnski@yahoo.com as well.

Sincerely,
UWSC Board
